Biannual Scientific Conference “Influenza: Virology, Epidemiology, Prevention and Treatment”, St. Petersburg, 22-23 October 2014

Biannual scientific conference “Influenza: Virology, Epidemiology, Prevention and Treatment” organized by the RII took place October 22–23, 2014 at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Saint–Petersburg, Russia. The conference gathered more than 220 researchers, medical practitioners and healthcare officials from Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and elsewhere. The agenda embraced the latest developments in the research of molecular and biological properties of influenza, etiological and epidemiological features of influenza, immunoprophylaxis, development of novel antiviral preparations and influenza vaccines. A separate session was dedicated to the issues of viral hepatitis. Notable speech was made by prof. Robert S. Marks from the Ben–Gurion University of the Negev, Israel, on the development of biosensors for virus detection. In total, oral 46 presentations were made.

In the framework of the conference a contest of selected research works by young scientists, divided into oral presentations and a poster session, was held. The winners were distinguished with a diploma and a prize.
